The Calgary Flames have been busy. Last week, during the 2008 NHL Draft, they moved Alex Tanguay to the Montreal Canadiens (I’m still furious), acquired Mike Cammaleri and now have extended some contracts to existing players to secure their roster for next season.
Yesterday, they announced the re-signing of centres, Craig Conroy and Daymond Langkow along with left wing, Eric Nystrom, and goaltender, Curtis McElhinney. I’m happy Connie is staying but I’m particularly thrilled about Langkow. It just feels like he’s been a Flame forever and I hope it stays that way. Should be an exciting season.

The Anaheim Ducks have put Todd Bertuzzi on unconditional waivers. Basically, they want to buy out his contract. If no one claims him by 9am PST he will clear the waivers and the fun will begin…
The GM, Brian Burke, blames the situation on the salary cap. Here’s what he said: “Todd Bertuzzi is a quality person who we believe can still play at the NHL level. Unfortunately, we are handcuffed by our salary cap situation. We thank him for his efforts last year and wish him the best of luck in the future.”
In a press conference (read the whole thing here), he assured the media that, if there was no salary cap, he would not be getting rid of Big Bert. He said that, although Bertuzzi has been a good member of the team, he just can’t justify paying him $4 million. Ouch…

You’ve heard the rumors - supposedly, there’s no five-star hotels (or even decent quality ones) available during the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. Good news! You may not have to sleep outdoors (isn’t that a great picture?). Fortunately, a service called “Hotels Combined” which seems a bit like Travelocity and Expedia, has provided a list of accommodations that are still up for grabs.
I was shocked that there were still some vacancies but what really blew my mind were the prices! I saw some as low as $60 Canadian dollars per night! That’s incredible.

Tensions are mounting in the run for the 2008 Euro Cup match this Sunday! June 29. Germany is seeing a record fourth consecutive Euro Cup win, while Spain fights to stay alive. Spain might have been the underdogs this year but they have pulled though, proving to the world that they deserve to win. Sunday’s match is expected to be televised to a record number of North American’s. Surveyors have already confirmed that Canada are pulling in huge ratings for the Euro Cup games, and things are only expected to rise. I know I will be glued to the tube Sunday!

June 28th, 2008Shan Foster, a 6′6 guard, drafted #51 overall, averaged 20.3ppg his senior year at Vanderbilt while netting 46.9% of his downtown tries as well.
He may be a one trick pony on the court, but he’s far from it off the court.

Check out the Unofficial Voice of Your Vanderbilt Commodores. They have up the lyrics of Shan’s song.
If his basketball career doesn’t work out, heck, having a degree and a musical aptitude are quality backup plans.
